Act Zero Films is an environmentally conscious film production company commited to reducing the amount of waste on film sets and creating a more responsible filmmaking process. While a popular goal is "carbon-neutral," a crew shooting on location with generators and trailers is very far from that ideal. The set is often a wasteful atmosphere, and we feel that simply reducing regular waste would be a great way to start a responsible mindset.
While not as wasteful as a full crew on location, the office is an easy place to reduce waste and establish a work environment that is responsible and "green." Some of the steps we've taken in our office include setting up a proper recycling practices as well as using 100% recycled paper. All of our cleaning products are biodegradable, and we have also switched our electricity to ConEdison's green wind power service.
Almost half of all silver released into the environment by humans comes from the manufacturing of film.We use HD and digital as often as possible to avoid waste of film stock, which is both expensive and rarely recycled.Our in-house work is shot with our Sony EX-1 HD camera package. Another source of waste on set are expendables, rather than trying to force people to organize and re-use expendables, we donate them to the Brooklyn college film program after each project.
The environment is important to us, but we also work with very talented crews. Act Zero wants to make sure that they're always well taken care of. We always make sure to accommodate our crew's needs, with fresh fruit, vitamins, Emergen-C, and whatever little details we can cover, so that they can do the best job possible. And for those unfortunate extra-long days we have 5 hour energy drinks and rest periods for anyone driving a vehicle.
